Explorer Elementary Science
Kindergarten,1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade
I would like to welcome you and your student to Explorer Science. My name is Tony McDonald. I am very excited to get the school year started! This will be myn 19th year of teaching and my 12th year at Goddard. I graduated from Wichita State University with a major in elementary education and a minor in science. I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana with my parents and brother. I spent many summers investigating the surrounding swamps and natural environment. It was a wonderful time and I learned so much. I hope to convey much of that information to my students. My wife, who grew up in Arizona, is a Nurse Anesthetist and works in Wichita and the surrounding area. We have three children, two sons and a daughter. My daughter graduated from K-State and was married in June, while my youngest son is attending his second year at WSU, while studying international business. My oldest son is 26 and works here in Wichita.
Science is very important to me. I feel that the principals and procedures in science teach the students how to problem solve and understand the order of operation when problem solving. I want them to understand this process so that they truly enjoy science throughout their life and come to love it as much as I do. Each grade level will be studying different areas within the project lead the way curriculum at different times. All grade levels are also lab based, which means that even though we will have short lectures and unit study Q & A sessions, it will all be leading up to the final lab experiment . There will be smaller hands on labs within the unit to expand on the information and insure student understanding.
I look forward to seeing each of you soon. I understand that teaching a child is a collaborative effort. I will keep you informed of your students’ progress. If you have concerns or questions at any time, please feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at call me at extension 54520. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child’s life and education.
